Poole Salvation Army

Poole Town Centre Churches Together Service - 30.09.07

A modern, warm, comfortable building with excellent facilities for one of it's size. Situated just off Poole High St. Limited church parking, but public car park adjacent to building.

As soon as I walked though the door I was warmly welcomed by an army of friendly faces - although on reflection I suppose that shouldn't have surprised me!

Like most members of the public I was familiar with the traditional image of the Salvation Army brass band in the High St, but having never set foot inside the barracks before I was taken aback when I discovered that there was the same uniformed ensemble up on the stage.

Overall the service was a well-orchestrated mix of mediums that effectively presented a common message. As well as corporate worship from powerpoint slides, there were song, dance and band solos + numerous speakers.

Afterwards, I was invited to stay for coffee and biscuits in their meeting room, served up from a kitchen Gordon Ramsey would be happy to cook in! I drilled some of the Privates for details of what community activities the church was involved in and there seemed to be quite an impressive amount, which is always a healthy sign.

So to summarise, a warm, welcoming church, filled with real genuine people. Not sure how representative this service was of the usual Sunday evening slot, but would definitely recommend a try - especially if you are into uniforms and brass bands!
