GENERAL INFORMATION

POOLE PASSION PLAY 2010

The Poole Community Passion Play Through the Eyes of a Child is to be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 8th, 9th and 10th this year. The first scenes will be enacted at St James’ Church, starting at 7 p.m. Cast and audience will then process via the Guildhall steps, pausing for intermediate scenes, then to Skinner Street URC for the final scenes. The organizers are keen to involve people of all denominations, all faiths and those of no particular faith, of both sexes, all ages and races, regardless of physical or dramatic ability. There is work for everyone, whether it be acting, working back stage, or with props and costumes. Rehearsals are held at 5.30 p.m. each Wednesday, at Parkstone United Reformed Church, Commercial Road, other than the third Wednesday of each month, when rehearsals are at Skinner Street URC. Financial help to meet the considerable costs of the production are being sought. Any contribution, whether large or small, will be gratefully received. Cheques, payable to Poole Community Passion Play, may be sent to the Reverend Roger Bayldon, 37 Blake Dene Road, Poole, BH14 8HF.

GRANTS FOR DORSET CHURCHES

A new charity, the Erskine-Muton Trust Fund [Reg Charity no. 1130199], has recently been established for churches in Dorset. The trustees will consider applications for grants in the order of £5-£10,000 for repairs, maintenance, and development of church buildings. It is anticipated that the fund will make grants each quarter, with the first distribution in March 2010. Application forms will be available shortly from christine.romano@salisbury.anglican.org: 01722 438650.

QUIET AND RETREAT DAYS IN PUDDLETOWN

These events take place in St Mary’s Church, Puddletown, or in the adjacent hall (very modern and comfortable) and take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You will need a Bible and packed lunch. Forthcoming dates are Tuesday, February 16th with Lent reflections and prayers – Monday, March 15th about “Lifelong Learning; with Daphne Hull – and Tuesday, April 20th with Patrick Evans on “Pilgrims”. Further information from 01305 849144 or roy@revroy.com.

THE CHURCH MISSION SOCIETY

Some important changes have taken place as far as the Church Mission Society is concerned this year. CMS and SAMS (the South American Mission Society) integrated last month and will thus assume a new charitable entity and name called the Church Mission Society (CMS). Celebrations to mark this new life together as an acknowledged mission community will be taking place in May. CMS remains committed to work in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East but will now be relating with partners in Latin America. From the practical point of view of any people or churches who are members or supporters of the organisation, there will be a new charity number. Full details will be arriving in the post during the spring. Meanwhile, the website continues at www.cms-uk.org.

REACHING OUT IN THE COMMUNITY

We are well aware in the Poole Deanery of “pioneer ministry”, “Messy church” and other innovative developments and are thinking about chaplaincy for the local boroughs, so these and other developments will be aired as part of the AGM of Dorset Churches Together on Thursday, February 25th. The venue is the Methodist Church in King Street, Wimborne, from 2 to 4.30 p.m. Further information from ctdorset@clara.net .

IMAGINE

This is a day described as “discovery” with Mark Greene of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, arranged by the North Poole Churches, and is a chance to “imagine” what life could be like if Jesus influenced the whole of our lives. The venue is Canford Heath United Reformed Church, Mitchell Road, Poole, from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., on Saturday, February 6th. You will need to take your own lunch. Bookings through one of the North Poole churches.

BISHOP GRAHAM WITH THE PIONEER MINISTRY

The Reverend Paul Bradbury reports that Bishop Graham is to visit Poole on March 21st to commission Reconnect for its ministry as a missional community in the regeneration area of Poole. This is described as a “rite of passage” for the community, and Paul says it is “a chance for the wider church and others to hear about who we are and what our vision is and an important marker in ensuring that Reconnect is connected to the wider church”. Details of the event have still to be finalized and we should be able to give those in our next bulletin, meanwhile, make a note of the date for prayer and possible attendance. If you would like to know more, there is a website for Reconnect and it is www.reconnect-poole.org.uk.

CELEBRATION OF MINISTRY

Milton and Blandford Deanery is holding a Celebration of Ministry Day on Saturday, May 15th which may be of interest to those who are prepared to travel to Blandford School. The times are 10.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and entry and parking are free. It is a come and go as you please event but includes a talk and opportunity for discussion from Bishop Graham at 11.30 a.m. with the theme of “The ministry we need for the Mission we have”. Information and details of a Bible study preparation series, can be obtained from the Reverend Jimmy Hamilton-Brown on 01258 453939 or jumperhb@tiscali.co.uk.
