Aims
For participants to gain an understanding of the benefits of mentoring and coaching when working with children and young people
By the end of the session participants will have:
Explored what we mean by mentoring and coaching
Examined the benefits of mentoring and coaching
Considered the importance of values in mentoring and coaching
Reflected on some practical implications of mentoring and coaching when working with children and young people

Biography
Sharon is a freelance Trainer, Mentor and Leadership Coach, she is a qualified teacher working with several universities on courses relating to children and young people
She is involved as a freelance trainer for many organisations including the NHS, various universities and colleges and The Salvation Army. Her main role is training children’s and youth workers with the Open University and the University of Manchester.
She has lots of practical experience of working with children and young people in the voluntary sector and also in the school environment. She is particularly interested in helping children and young people develop their leadership skills. The dissertation she did for her Masters course was based around using mentoring as an effective way of developing leadership in young people.
She is just completing a Diploma in Leadership Coaching with the Coaching Academy and uses what she has learnt on this course to help young people achieve their full potential. In her spare time she teaches aerobics, is a member of her local church and likes Chinese food and walking on the beach! |
