Event Description: | Working with non-users
13th October 2008
Conference Room, Civic Centre
Substance misuse has a major impact on families, carers and friends.
This workshop will focus on issues faced by non-users who are caring for others with substance dependency. Dependency is like the elephant in the living room of society. Too many people choose to ignore it or find ways to make themselves feel responsible for what is happening around them. The workshop will offer practical ways of addressing the problem, focus on the notion of identifying where either party (user or non-user) may be in the cycle of change and how conflict occurs when they are at different stages.
A family 'sculpt' will be used to animate situations that readily occur in families and identification of support services will be available.
